I am not a sprinter. When the big dogs from my local bike club go for a city limit sign in a rush of male testoserone, I am always left behind. At the end of a race when the participants stand and push a big gear in the sprint for the finish, I go with them but I hurt. As I said, I am not a sprinter.
In June it came time to register for the next race, the Lakota Cup in Columbia, and I was given a choice of three types of races: road race, street sprint and criterium. I have participated in road races and criteriums in the past and checked those boxes...but a street sprint? I?m not good at sprinting, but what the heck!

For the cyclist in Paris there is only one rule: don't think, just go. Despite what may at first seem like total mayhem, Parisian traffic is really more like someone's messy desk. You shouldn't clean it up because there's actually an organization to it.

One of my favorite activities on any rails-to-trail is observing wildlife. Depending on the trail, you can see anything from deer, fox, snakes, turtles and all kinds of birds, even larger ones such as owls, hawks and eagles. If I see any smaller wildlife resting on the trail I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. Should I leave it alone or try to "encourage" the animal to move along so it doesn't get run over by other riders? Generally, it's best to simply enjoy your wild encounters and move on. Occasionally, though, I have felt the necessity to gently urge the more delicate locals to move off the trail and onto the nearby grass.

Fitness Benefits of Biking |
Tied into the joy of biking are the fitness benefits of biking. Obesity is becoming a huge crisis in the United States and more than 40 percent of Americans are overweight. To combat the growing health crisis caused by obesity and being overweight doctors and other health experts are strongly encouraging people to rediscover the joys of physical activity. Since so many people are out of shape low impact exercises like biking are highly recommended for people who live sedentary or nearly sedentary lives as a way to get started on the path to fitness. Like any other physical activity there are different levels of biking that range from a simple bike ride to training for biking marathons but just like a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step the journey to fitness begins with a bike ride around the block.
